  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted or softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine room temperature unsalted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt; whisk until smooth.
  3. Gradually mix in all-purpose flour until fully incorporated, then press into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Toss sliced apples with all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over the shortbread base.
  5. In another bowl, combine remaining flour with brown sugar and melted butter until crumbly; sprinkle over the apple layer.
