  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked sushi rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons toasted black sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fruit juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Nori sheets (cut into strips)
  • Optional: Furikake seasoning

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until clear. Cook it with water in a rice cooker or pot according to appliance instructions.
  2. Once cooked, mix in toasted sesame seeds and sesame oil until well combined. Allow the rice to cool slightly.
  3. Wet your hands and shape about 1/2 cup of rice into a triangle.
  4. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, fruit juice, and sugar to create the marinade.
  5. Preheat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil and grill each onigiri for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Brush one side with the soy marinade and flip to caramelize for another few seconds; repeat for all sides.
  7. Serve wrapped in nori strips or topped with optional furikake seasoning.
