  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (cow, coconut, or almond)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sea salt, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar.
  3. Cut cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in molasses and milk until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Shape dough into a circle about ¾ inch thick on a lined cookie sheet.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Cut into 8 wedges and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Optional: Whisk together icing ingredients and drizzle over warm scones before serving.
