Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 fresh unwaxed oranges

  • 1 cup water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice off the peels, avoiding the white pith. Cut the peels into 1/4 inch wide strips.
  2. Place the orange peels in a pot with cold water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, then drain and repeat this boiling process 2-3 times.
  3. In the same pot, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over gentle heat until dissolved.
  4. Add the boiled orange peels to the syrup and cook on low heat for about 45 minutes until translucent.
  5. Transfer the peels onto a cooling rack lined with parchment paper to dry.
