  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for ganache)
  • Fresh orange slices or candied orange peel (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans with grease and parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients; mix until smooth.

  5. Divide batter evenly among prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool in pans for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  7. For the orange filling, whisk sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan; gradually add orange juice while whisking. Cook over medium heat until thickened; stir in zest and butter.
