  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream the unsalted butter and neutral oil until smooth. Gradually mix in the brown sugar mixture followed by milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans before transferring to wire racks.
  5. For the frosting, beat room temperature butter and cold cream cheese until smooth; gradually add sifted powdered sugar.
  6. Assemble the cake by layering with frosting in between layers and covering the top and sides.
